As a Non-Profit Arts Organization our company has a long history of engaging the community as participant performers in our productions with typical participants ranging from distinguished donors to aspiring opera singers. We welcome you to take a chance and join some of the world’s leading opera singers on the stage.

In case you’re not familiar with the term, Supernumeraries are what we call the people that fill the integral non-vocal roles of villagers, villains, vendors, virgins, priests, cut throats, servants, etc. that make up the peripheral world of the opera. These roles are an important part of each production and it is not a stretch for some productions (i.e. Aida) to require as many as 100 supernumerary roles.

The more people we can put on stage, the more grand the production becomes and with our move back into the Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts coming in March we want to bring in as many community members as we can to take part in celebrating our return home.

We will be accepting “Supers” for all of our productions and would like to add anyone who is interested in donating their time to take part in something extremely engaging and rewarding.

  • A rehearsal commitment
We begin “staging rehearsals” 3 weeks before the close of each production usually on a Monday. Supers may be called to any of the evening or weekend rehearsals during that period.
  • Mandatory attendance during performance week
When necessary, exceptions can be made for schedule conflicts during the 2 weeks of staging rehearsals, however, attendance becomes imperative in the final week of tech and dress rehearsals and performances. Supers will only be called for evenings or weekends.
  • A desire to wear period costumes and be in a world class opera in the nation’s First City of Opera!

There will be no singing or speaking required for this experience, your job will be creating the “world” of the opera through your physical presence.
