Astor Piazzolla’s surreal tango masterpiece, María de Buenos Aires, opens our 2017-2018 Chamber Opera Series at the JW Marriott Hotel on September 9th & 10th, 2017. Our special new production features the finest interpreters of the principal roles: Catalina Cuervo as María, a mystical figure born on the day God was drunk; Luis Alejandro Orozco as El Payador, a traveling ballad singer; and Milton Loayza as El Duende (The Narrator).
Experience love, betrayal, and tango in an intimate theater-in-the-round performance, followed by a “milonga” (tango dance party) for the audience. Not appropriate for children under 14 without parental guidance.
This production is in collaboration with Casa Argentina New Orleans in support of their mission to enrich the cultural diversity of our city. The work will be staged by Tomer Zvulun, Artistic Director of The Atlanta Opera. Maestro Robert Lyall leads our special Piazzolla orchestra, featuring the Polymnia Quartet, joined by Daniel Binelli and Polly Ferman, the renowned bandoneon player and tango pianist duo who are the foremost performers and torchbearers of the music of Astor Piazzolla. In addition to the opera, we will include some of the most beloved tangos with performances by international tango stars Maureen and Carlos Urrego and Tango Axis. >Click Here for More Information!
