Carmen Mp3 Art

Carmen

Bizet
October 10 & 12, 2014 – Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts
The one your mother warned you about.

Why do men always fall for the most self-absorbed women? It’s the classic story of a man who gives up everything for a woman who doesn’t love him in return. Bizet’s dramatic tour de force should be on everyone’s “bucket list” of great works. With such famous music as the “Toreador Song” and “Habañera,” there is a reason Carmen is a must-see opera!

Rusalka Mp3 Art

Rusalka

Dvořák
November 14 & 16, 2014 – Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts
Hell hath no fury like a mermaid scorned!

Would you make a deal with a witch to get the man you love, even if it might mean damnation for you both? Join Dvořák’s Rusalka as she navigates through the fleeting joy and unspeakable pain of unrequited love. From the composer of the wildly popular “New World” Symphony, Rusalka features one of the most sumptuous arias in opera, “Song to the Moon.” This darkly sensual fairy tale is, at the core, a story about the soul and the nature of what it is to be human.

Lucia Mp3 Art

Lucia Di Lammermoor

Donizetti
March 13 & 15, 2015 – Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts
Lose your mind for love.

Star-crossed lovers from feuding families, an arranged marriage for political gain, an elder brother out to destroy his sister’s romance, and a murderous, psychotic bride. Is there anything Donizetti’s most popular work is missing? Did we mention that it has the most famous mad scene in all of opera? Come see and hear Lucia’s beautiful descent into madness. This thrilling and dramatic bel canto masterpiece is one of the best that Italian opera can offer and an experience you’ll never forget.

Figaro Mp3 Art

The Marriage of Figaro

Mozart
April 10 & 12, 2015 – Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts
Not just another typical day at the castle.

The Count loves the Countess, but wants Susanna. Susanna is planning to marry Figaro, but so is Marcellina. Bartolo wants to marry Marcellina, whom he is secretly in love with…oh well, you get the point! Throw in a plot to catch a cheating husband, a scheme to make the Count jealous, and a wife’s plan to get revenge and you have Mozart’s brilliant setting of the Beaumarchais play that “launched the French Revolution.” Full of disguises, intrigue, and mistaken identities, this evening of hijinks set to Mozart’s incomparable music will take you on an adventure of love, betrayal, and forgiveness.
