Wood Operatic Grant Winner for Spring 2022

Debby Hirsch Wood and New Orleans Opera announce the recipient of the Spring 2022 Wood Operatic Advancement Grant.

Congratulations to Julia Ernst!

Mezzo-soprano Julia Anne Ernst is a sophomore studying Vocal Performance under Irini Kyriakidou at the Loyola University of New Orleans.

The Wood Operatic Advancement Grant will pay for her to travel for some upcoming opportunities. At the end of March, she will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to sing for the Opera Grand Rapids VanderLaan Prize, where she is one of ten finalists from across the United States. Julia also recently won first place in the Neapolitan Masters International Voice Competition. She will travel to Italy in July to sing concerts in Naples and on Procida Island where she will be a part of the Mimas Music Festival.

Julia was a first-place winner in the 2019 Donald W. Wood, Sr. Vocal Competition and is, “eternally grateful for the support and investment in her future that the Wood Operatic Advancement Grant will provide. “
