Henry Herbert Wins the 2024 Spring/Summer Donald W. Wood, Sr. Advancement Grant
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce the recipient of this year’s Spring/Summer Wood Advancement Grant: Henry Herbert, a talented bass-baritone from New Orleans.
Henry, currently a second-year student at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in voice and opera performance under the guidance of the esteemed mezzo-soprano and vocal pedagogue, Theresa Brancaccio.

Henry’s dedication to his craft and his outstanding achievements as a performer have truly distinguished him among his peers.
He has been actively involved with OPUS (Opera Projects for Undergraduate Students), where he has showcased his talents in various productions, including notable roles in works such as Massenet’s Cendrillon, Barbieri’s El Barberillo de Lavapiés, and Bernstein’s Candide.
Additionally, his contributions to the Northwestern Opera Theater, where he has participated in productions like Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Handel’s Alcina, have further solidified his reputation as a promising young artist.
Having received a Certificate of Artistry in voice from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Henry has consistently demonstrated his commitment to excellence in vocal performance. His impressive achievements, including being a 2nd Place finalist in the Donald W. Wood Sr. Vocal Competition in 2020, attest to his exceptional talent and dedication.
